Birdwatching in The Algave
Birdwatching is very popular on the Algarve. Quite exotic birds can be common place. Hoopoes are often seen pecking at the grass in our gardens. Azure-winged magpies nest all over the site. Other unusual birds often spotted include rollers, bee-eaters, kestrels, buzzards, red kites and ospreys.
Due to the close proximity of the sea and coastal areas we also see gulls, terns, plovers and egrets. We have recently come across an area not too far away where herons abound. The stork of course is ever present, nesting on pylons and disused chimney stacks.
